Autism and Mercury, Yesterday’s News Today

September 19th, 2007 · No Comments

While doing some reading online, I came across a nice New York Times article on the controversy over a suspected (by a very small number of scientists) link between autism and a part-mercury compound that used to be used as a vaccine preservative. I’ve read a bunch of the research, both for and against, on this matter myself and find the idea totally bogus. One would have thought that after the preservative was no longer in use for years and autism rates continued to climb without a blip, that people would have given up on the idea. Anyway, if you know someone who is concerned that mercury-derived preservatives in vaccines caused their child’s autism, maybe you can send this to them.

Not much has changed in the story in the past two years except that as we get further and further away from the time people stopped using thimerosal in vaccines, the major proponents of this theory have started to try to morph their ideas into something else.
