Configuring which Google Apps Calendars are Sync’d to iOS 4.0 via ActiveSync
July 7th, 2010 · No Comments
If you’re using the “Exchange” method of synchronizing calendars and notice that not all of your multiple calendars from your Google Apps for Domains setup are being sync’d down, follow these instructions:
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=139206
Basically, for those in the know, it’s the usual m.google.com/sync stuff, but there’s a link in the fine print at the bottom for Google Apps for Domains.
Also note: if someone directs you to a url with “iphoneselect” in it, that’s only when accessing calendars in a non-push way through the iphone’s “Gmail” setup. If you use the Exchange setup for getting push calendars, follow the url I posted above.

Applescript to reload a web page in DevonThink Pro via Harvard’s EZ-Proxy
April 15th, 2010 · No Comments
Whipped this up this morning. The Error -128 exception is from one of DT’s own scripts, so I’m not sure what that error is, precisely. Feel free to comment as I’m a novice at AppleScript.
tell application id "com.devon-technologies.thinkpro2"
try
if not (exists think window 1) then error "No window is open."
set old_URL to the URL of think window 1
set pat to "'s@(https*://[^/]+)@\1.ezp2.harvard.edu@'"
set new_URL to do shell script "echo " & quoted form of old_URL & " | perl -pe " & pat
set the URL of think window 1 to new_URL
on error error_message number error_number
if the error_number is not -128 then display alert "DEVONthink Pro" message error_message as warning
end try
end tell

NPR podcasts
September 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I accidently figured out that some of my favorite weekend (and daily) NPR shows are now available as podcasts and indexed in iTunes.
If you have iTunes for such things, click here!
Otherwise, figure it out yourself

Spanning Sync for Mac
September 10th, 2008 · No Comments
I’ve been using Spanning Sync for a while to have stable bi-directional sync between iCal and Google Calendar. If you choose to do the same and want $5 off, try this:
Basically, it works and has the simplest possible user interface: choose which Google calendars map to which iCal calendars and let it go.
One downside: It doesn’t map reminders, which doesn’t bother me. If I do reminders, I just do them on iCal so they are synced properly over to the iPhone. See the FAQ here: http://spanningsync.com/faq.html
Best of all, if you buy via that link, then *I* get $5, too
. Or just use Spanning Sync code UAHBCQ
Good times.

Comparison of Obama and McCain’s tax plans here.
Analyze: Obama’s plan costs $160 per family. McCain’s costs $1,195. Obama’s helps those families making less than $66,000 the most, while McCain focuses on the ultra-rich with whopping tax cuts for those families making over $2.81 million dollars/year.
Consider: If you believe that Bush’s strategy of giving tax cuts to the ultra rich has actually trickled down and helped the poor and middle class, then vote for McCain as he’s proposing precisely the same strategy. If you believe is more directly helping families making less than $200,000/yr., then you should be interested in Obama’s.
